Tips for a Successful Project
- Communicate frequently with your mentor. Schedule meetings for the entire month, early on at the mentor's convenience. Conference calls, emails, and the discussion groups (on the Communications page) can also facilitate communication.
- Plan scope of work activities early on. It is useful to have a timeline with where you want to be with regards to various activities like literature review, design of data collection forms, data collection, data entry, analysis, presentation preparation, etc.
- Review previous projects. On this website are descriptions of previous COPC projects, with actual slide presentations for some. They will be useful for you to review in terms of content and form of successful projects. Additionally, previous diabetes projects may provide ideas of "next steps" needed to continue to improve the management of diabetes.
- Distribute work across the entire project team. Activities can occur simultaneously (for example, data entry can be spaced out throughout data collection). Clearly delineate responsibilities for each team member with dates for feedback of progress, etc.
